And why you need to get it fixed ASAP.

Shingles are at risk of blowing off.

A leak is more than just an inconvenience.

A leak is an inconvenience no matter how small. However, you do need to get it resolved as soon as possible, doing so will save you money down the road.

Leaving a leak unresolved will not only be detrimental to the immediate area surrounding the leak, but could also potentially begin to rot the decking underneath over time. Mold might also begin to grow inside your attic.

Here are some signs you may have a leak or are at risk of one:

  • Water is literally dripping from your ceiling. Yeah, you definitely have a leak and need to get it checked out and fixed. You may also notice staining on your ceiling.

  • You notice a few shingles have blown off. San Antonio's weather can be crazy at times. One minute it's sweltering hot and the next it seems as though Armageddon has arrived. High winds may blow loose shingles and leave your roof exposed to water damage (and leaks) if water makes it through the underlayment.

  • Your roof is old. Most roofs last anywhere between 20 and 25 years. Like everything else, shingles deteriorate; they develop cracks, fade, and become loose over time which in turn leaves your home susceptible to wind and water damage. At this point you might need a yearly inspection and should probably plan to save for a replacement.
